Abstract

899,758. Colour photography. CIBA Ltd. May 27, 1960 [June 12, 1959], No. 18919/60. Class 98(2). Colour photographs or pictures made by the silver dye bleach process are treated with a water-soluble compound of cobalt, nickel or copper in an alkaline to weakly acidic medium, to improve fastness to light thereof. Dye-metal complexes may be formed thereby, and advantages of such formation over the original use of metallised dyestuffs, such as higheremulsion speed and possibility of destruction of the already metallised dyestuffs in strongly acidic treatment baths, are indicated. Five examples illustrate the procedure with reference to single-colour layers, one to two-colour and one to three-colour, using specified azo dyes and a range of salts and complexes of nickel, cobalt, copper.
