Class 97(1) An optical lens is defined by surfaces of revolution, at least one of which has a meridian of continuously varying curvature and has a substantially uniform astigmatism. For correcting presbyopia, in the absence of crystalline or corneal astigmatism, the other lens surface may have an equal and opposite astigmatism and may have a meridian of constant curvature.Such a lens may be made by securing a lens blank on a mount and grinding it by rotating a grinding element about an axis, which is determined by either of two methods described in the Specification.
