Abstract

873,192. Ammunition cartridges. AMP Inc. Feb. 12, 1960 [Feb. 17, 1959], No. 4997/60. Class 9(1). A cartridge comprising a cylinder 10 is closed at one end by a wall 12 with a seating rim 13 and contains an explosive charge 18 between the closed end and a plug 14 lying within the cylinder, and a percussion cap 24 in the plug so that the cartridge can be fired only by a firing pin moving down the cylinder from its open end. The cylinder and closed plug are preferably integral and may be made of an organic thermoplastic such as polyethylene. The plug has a longitudinal passage 20, which interconnects the percussion cap and charge and may have a recess 26 about its middle portion to serve as a gas-check.
