Abstract
867,728. Surface finishing machines. KALMAN FLOOR CO. Jan. 27, 1959, No. 2985/59. Class 107 In a hand operated concrete or the like finishing machine, rotational and vibrational movement is imparted to the surfacing member. The machine comprises a housing 10 through which passes a drive shaft 12 which rotates a drive plate 16 which is resiliently coupled to a work plate 20 by brackets 27. Pinions 47 mounted on the drive plate mesh with a sun gear 33 which is freely mounted on the shaft 12. A clutch 45, operated by lever 70 attached to the operating handle mounted on the housing 10, connects a part 37 of the sun gear to a rim 39 which forms part of the housing. Each of the four pinions is coupled via pulleys 53, 55 to a rotatable mass 63 eccentrically mounted on the master plate 23, attached to work plate 20, with its axis perpendicular to adjacent masses. Each mass is arranged to produce vibration in antiphase to its adjacent masses and in phase with its opposite mass. Operation of the clutch clamps the sun gear to the housing and the pinions rotate, rotating the masses and vibrating the work plate.
