Abstract

858,913. Hypodermic syringes. MORETON, V. Feb. 27, 1959 [March 6, 1958; Nov. 5, 1958], Nos. 7307/58 and 35598/58. Class 81(2) A needle holder 11 is slidable in a tubular sleeve 10, and, between the two, there is an interengageable resilient catch means, which may be in the form of hooked tongues 14 engaging a groove 16, so that after a predetermined pressure has been applied to the holder 11, the catch is released and the needle moves rapidly forward to penetrate the patient's skin. The stretching of the skin and compression of the tissue renders it less sensitive than usual. The holder 11 and sleeve 10 are made of metal and the tongues 14 are produced by longitudinal cuts in the sleeve 10. If desired, adjustable stops may be provided to limit the depth of penetration of the needle. Preferably the holder 11 has a standard nozzle 23 to receive the needle mount and has a corresponding recess 25 for engagement with the nozzle of a syringe.
