Abstract

843,965. Plate-type heat-exchangers. LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd., J. Jan. 15, 1959 [Oct. 31, 1957], No. 33984/57. Class 64(3) In a heat exchanger comprising an annular assembly of cells each having radially corrugated 'side walls separating the heat exchanging fluids from one another, each cell is formed at one or each of its ends with an extension adapted to receive a metal band 15 or 16 for binding together a group . of the cells, further bands, e.g. 17, 18, 19, 20 being placed around the cell groups to form the annular assembly of cells and being. welded at their outer edges to the respective bands 15, 16. In the form shown each cell, which is closed at one end by a plate 12, comprises two corrugated side walls 10 and two spacing walls 11, the corrugations at the edges of walls 10 are closed in the manner indicated at 10a. The heat exchanging fluids flow respectively between neighbouring cells and through each cell in the directions indicated. Fluid flow within each cell along the side wall corrugations is effected by partitions 13, 14. The extensions to receive the bands 15, 16 are formed at one end of a cell on the spacers 11 and at the other end of the cell on the closure plate 12.
