Abstract
831,673. Swash plate pumps. NEW YORK AIR BRAKE CO. March 10, 1958 [May 2, 1957], No. 7559/58. Class 102(1). [Also in Group XXIX] In a swash-plate pump a two part shaft 21, 22 splined together at 23 is journalled in a housing in bearings 24, 25. A rotatable cylinder block 28 engages a ported valve plate 14 and is supported by the shaft 22 by engagement of a cylindrical surface 45 with a part spherical surface 42 formed on the shaft 22 and having a centre 43 located on the axis of the shaft. Pistons 34 slidable in the cylinder bores 33 have sperhical heads 35 engaging a swash-plate 46 through shoes 37 held in engagement with the swash plate 46 by means of a ring 48 supported by a spherical collar 49 carried by the shaft 22, the swash-plate 46 being angularly adjustable about the point 43 to vary the stroke of the pistons by means of a piston 66 slidable in a cylinder 67 supplied with outlet pressure fluid under the control of a valve 68 and opposed by a spring biased plunger 65. The plane passing through the centres 36 of the spherical ends 35 of the plungers 34 passes through the point 43. A torque tube 52 is splined at 54 to the shaft 22 and at 53 to the cylinder block 28 the shaft 22, torque tube 52 and the inner chamber 31 of the block 28 being radially spaced from each other. A spring 55 is supported at one end by an adjustable ring 56 in the block 28 and at the other end by a washer 57 engaging the torque tube 52 so that the block 28 is initially biased into engagement with the valve plate 14. The sides of all spline teeth are of involute shape and the top lands of all teeth and the flanks of the external teeth are crowned. The Specification details some typical dimensions.
