Abstract

798,535. Heat exchangers. AKTIEBOLAGET ROSENBLADS PATENTER. Feb. 19, 1957, No. 5517/57. Class 64(3) A heat exchanger comprises a stack of plates 1 spaced apart by deformations formed in the heat exchange surfaces of the portions 3 to 6 of the plates, adjacent plates being welded together along the free edges of the upturned edge portions. Preferably all the plates in the stack are similar, alternate plates being turned through 90 or 180 degrees in the plane of the plate. The deformations may comprise arrow-like corrugations 11 (Figs. 1, 2 and 5), diagonal corrugations, cap-shaped protrusions or longitudinal ridges. Figs. 1, 2 and 5 show one form of apparatus in which parts of the upturned edge portions are of reduced height to provide inlet and outlet ports e.g. 12, 14 (Fig. 5) to and from the fluid spaces between adjacent plates these ports being connected to suitable headers e.g. 16, 18 for each fluid. Figs. 11, 12 and 15 show an alternate form in which the inlet and outlet ports 12a, 13a 14a, 15a to and from the fluid spaces are provided in the main portions of the plates 1b instead of in the edge portions thereof, conduits e.g. 20, 22 to and from the stack of plates being located in an end wall 24b forming part of a framework embracing the stack of plates.
