Abstract
760,415. Gas turbine plant. GARRETT CORPORATION. March 8, 1954 [March 10, 1953], No. 6669/54. Class 110 (3). A gas turbine power plant comprising a compressor driven by a primary turbine arranged in series with a useful output secondary turbine has first and second heat exchange means which receive the exhaust gases from the primary and secondary turbines respectively disposed in the passage connecting the compressor to the primary turbine. Air compressed in a two-stage centrifugal compressor 12, 13 is first heated in a heat exchanger 18 by the exhaust gases from a useful power turbine 28 and then further heated in a heat exchanger 17 by the exhaust gases from a turbine 22 before being supplied to a combustion chamber 20. The combustion gases from the combustion chamber 20 are supplied to the turbine 22 which drives the compressors 12, 13 and are then led through the heat exchanger 17 to a reheat combustion chamber 26 which feeds the useful power turbine 28. The combustion chambers 22, 28 are fed with fuel from a tank 34 by a pump 36 through control valves 43, 44. These valves are operated by a throttle linkage 45. The control rod 46 has a spring-loaded collar 47 mounted on it which engages an arm 50 carried by the valve 43. The arrangement is such that initial movement of the rod 46 actuates the arm 50 until it engages the stop 51 when the valve 43 is fully open. Further movement of the rod 46 will cause the end 52 of the rod to engage the arm 53 and open the valve 44. To ensure complete atomization of the fuel in the combustion chamber 26, compressed air is drawn into a premixing chamber 40 by the fuel flow into the combustion chamber.
