Abstract

746,238. Diapers. PAPER PATENTS CO. March 3, 1954 [March 5, 1953], No. 6222/54. Class 141. [Also in Group VI] An absorbent pad is made from an absorbent filler 10, a pervious upper sheet 11 and a moisture-proof backing sheet 12, which has a thermoplastic coating, the edges of this sheet being folded over and heat-sealed to the sheet 11, as at 21. The outer face of the protective sheet has a facing of fibrous material to provide a soft, non-chafing surface. The edges 22, in this construction may be left free to form marginal retaining strips. In an alternative form of pad the sheet 11 lies on the top of the edges of the protective sheet 12, see Fig. 5 (not shown). If desired, the protective sheet may be coextensive with the filler and, in this case, the upper sheet extends around the sides of the filler and is sealed to the backing sheet at the rear, so as to leave the edges of the pad absorbent.
