In an apparatus for housing electrical equipment in a locality liable to flooding, for example for housing the control gear of a street lamp in a chamber located near the lamp standard and below ground surface level, the equipment 7 is mounted on a platform 1 which is raised above the floor of the chamber &c. on supports 2 and an air-tight canopy 3 is positioned over the platform and detachably secured to supports 2 by wingnuts 10, the lower edges of the walls 5 of the canopy ending below the platform so that water entering under the edges will be prevented from rising to the level of the platform by the air trapped under the canopy.
