Abstract

722,642. Bottle closures ; non-refillable bottles. INTER-SEAL CORPORATION. Dec. 1, 1952 [Oct. 24, 1952], No. 30433/52. Classes 125 (1) and 125 (3). A bottle closure 14 has integral tongues 25 extending downwardly from its lower edge along the outside of the bottle neck 10 with internal projections 25a at their lower ends engaged beneath a bead 11 on the bottle, and external projections 25b above their lower ends engaged by a sleeve 26 telescoped over the closure to hold the tongues against withdrawal of the internal projections 25a from beneath the bead. The sleeve may have an internal shoulder 26a which snaps over the external projections 25b to lock the closure, or the sleeve may be secured to the tongues by a suitable solvent, the parts being made of plastic. The projections 25b cause the tongues 25 to be forced inwardly to thrust the projections 25a. beneath the bead and thus compress a gasket 20 on to the mouth of the bottle. An external transverse rib may be provided at the bottom of the tongues to arrest downward movement of the sleeve. The invention is shown applied to a non-refillable closure of the kind described in Specification 633,436 with a valve 21, float. 22 and ball weight 23, but it may be applied to a simple cap for tamperproof purposes. To prevent turning of the closure an external lug on the bottle neck is received into the space between a pair of the tongues 25.
