Abstract
709,183. Swash-plate pumps. FIELDING & PLATT, Ltd. July 12, 1951 [April 25, 1950], No. 10215/50. Class 102 (1). In a swash-plate pump, the rotor 4 is mounted on a stationary valve spindle 3 and has a number of cylinder bores 11 each containing two pistons 12 bearing against wobble plates 22 carried by bearings 21 in swash plates 19. Each piston has an enlarged head adjacent the wobble plate and the rotor has two annular passages 25 so that when the pistons of one set are delivering, they also apply pressure to liquid in passage 25 and maintain those pistons in the same set, which are making suction strokes, in contact with the wobble plate. The driving shaft 5 is supported in a bearing 6 in the casing and a bearing 8 in the end of the valve spindle and drives the rotor through a flexible coupling 10 of the toothed type. The angles of the swash plates are variable to vary the stroke of the pistons.
