Abstract

685,268. Spring suspensions for motor-cycles. GILARDI, C. Jan. 31, 1951 [March 31, 1950], No. 2478/51. Classes 136 (i) and 136 (iii) A frame for a light motor-cycle or an auto-cycle comprises two tubular members 1, 2 carrying the steering tube and saddles respectively, and a pair of members 5, 6 rigidly connected together to form a chain guard and to carry the rear wheel, the members 5, 6 being hinged to the tubular members I, 2 near their point of connection and resting against a spring 14 contained in the lower end of the member I. The members 1, 2 constitute the fuel tank, a hole 18, being provided in the wall between the two members. The tank is filled through a hole 19 and the fuel is conveyed to the engine by means of a pipe 20. The spring 14 bears against a plate 15, fixed in the member 1 below the hole 18, and against a cross-piece 16 which connects the members 5, 6. These members are also connected by a hub 10 which is supported in a sleeve 9 on a bracket 8 carried by the member 1. The crank axle 12 is supported by the nut 10. The engine 21 is supported from the members 5, 6 by connections 22, 23. A rubber cushion 25 is provided on the member 22 to bear against the member 8. A handle 24 is provided for lifting the vehicle.
