Abstract
In a process for coating an organic electrically insulating material with a layer of an electrical conductor, a coating of a finely divided conductor free from permanent binder is applied to the surface and subjected to heat and pressure, the temperature, pressure, and time being such that the particles of the conductor are caused to cohere and become at least partially embedded in the insulating material. The conducting material, which may be applied as a slurry in a volatile diluent, may be a good conductor, e.g. silver or copper, or a poor conductor, e.g. graphite or carbon black. The base material may be phenol-formaldehyde or aniline formaldehyde resin, an amino-plast resin, a polyvinyl resin, polythene, a styrene copolymer, or a phenol-formaldehyde condensation product with a minor proportion of vinyl chloride. A thermostat material may be used and a temperature of 200-250 DEG C. and pressure of 1000-2000 lb. per sq. inch employed. Specifications 638,149 and 672,255, [Group XXXVI], are referred to.
