Abstract

637,338. Spray carburetters. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Oct. 31, 1947, No. 29150. Convention date, June 24, 1939. [Class 7 (iii)] In a carburetter wherein partial depression of the accelerator pedal to open the throttle valve 27 also closes a switch in the starting motor circuit, while further movement of the pedal to open the throttle valve to the wide open position when the engine is cold forces open the choke valve 18, against the pressure of the usual thermostatic device, the throttle valve 27 is allowed to open freely until a stop 70 carried by a lever 36, freely pivoted on the throttle valve shaft 26, engages a pivoted stop 64, further opening of the valve 27 being opposed by a spring 38 connecting the lever 36 to the throttle actuating lever 30 fixed to the shaft 26 and actuated by a rod 28. The choke 18 is connected by a rod 56 to a stepped cam 54 which limits the closing of the valve 27, and the end 57, Fig. 4, of rod 56 projects through the cam 54 and contacts an arm 60, when the choke is closed, to rotate the stop 64 into the path of the stop 70. When the choke 18 is open the part 57 is disengaged from the arm 60 and the lever 64 is rotated under its own weight, or by a torsion spring, until an arm 66 thereon contacts a step 68, in which position the lever 64 is out of the path of the stop 70 and the throttle valve can open freely. At starting the contact of the stop 70 with the lever 64 indicates that the pedal has been depressed sufficiently to close the starting switch. If the engine becomes flooded, the throttle valve can be opened against the force of spring 38 until a heel 42 contacts an arm 62 to rotate the cam 54 and open the choke 18 through the rod 56. A link 44 connected to the lever 30 operates an accelerator pump 46.
