Abstract

634,877. Building blocks. LUNDHOLM, C. H. Aug. 16, 1947, No. 22827. [Class 87 (i)] Adjoining wall &c. blocks are engaged at their edges by two different co-operating members each carried by a rod extending in the respective block at right-angles to the joint and embedded therein for most of its length. As the blocks approach one another one member is resiliently deflected by the other and then returns to its previous position thus slipping the blocks together. Building blocks 1 having longitudinal and transverse rods 3, 4 moulded therein are recessed at their edges to accommodate resilient and rigid engagement members 6, 7, which are screwed on to the rod ends. Member 6 comprises a metal piece 62 with curved portions of piano wire anchored to it providing a heart-shaped space into which the rigid member 7 is received when adjacent blocks are brought together. The recesses are finally filled with quick-drying cement mortar. The transverse upright rods 4 are preferably much thicker than rods 3 which may pass through holes in rods 4. The resilient members may be located at the upper and the rigid members at the lower edges of the blocks.
