Abstract

535,555. Reciprocating pumps. COATALEN, L. April 18, 1940, No. 7034. Convention date, May 5, 1939. [Class 102 (i)] A transmitter pump for a liquid-pressure remote control system comprises a swashplate which reciprocates pistons 34 in a number of cylinders 31 arranged parallel to a driving spindle 12 and provided with outlets 32, 33 to deliver pressure liquid to one or other of a pair of pipe lines 26, 27 depending upon the direction in which the spindle is turned. In the form shown, the outlets 32, 33 register with a pair of slots 28, 29 which extend for nearly 180 degrees around opposite sides of a fixed sleeve 20, and with annular grooves 22, 23 communicating with bosses 24, 25 for the pipe lines 26, 27. The cylinders 31 are formed in a rotor 30 and contain return springs 38 for the pistons and non-return valves 35 for working liquid which is introduced under pressure from a reservoir by means of a pipe 18. The end spaces 17, 52 are connected by a passage 53 and an axial bore 54 in the rotor 30. The swashplate comprises a fixed cam 39, balls 47 in a cage 48, and a plate 46 with recesses to receive balls 45 carried by the ends of the pistons so as to rotate with the rotor. The spindle is actuated by a handle 14 on a flywheel 13, and the pump casing 10 is fitted with a pair of spring- loaded blow-off valves in communication with the grooves 22, 23 and leading back to the supply reservoir.
