[Class 108 (i)] [Also in Group XXXI] A motor vehicle chassis and body frame comprises (1) a sheet metal underframe 1 with a box-section edges 2 provided at each side with a pair of forwardly-projecting hollow or channel members 4, 5, the front ends of each pair converging so that they are situated one above the other, (2) two hollow struts 14, 15 each secured above one of the pairs of members 4, 5 and extending to a dash plate 11 in the upper part of the body frame, and (3) a front axle 10 secured to the members 4. 5 and the struts 14, 15. The underframe 1 and its box edges 2 may be formed as shown in Fig. 2, 20 being the propellershaft tunnel. The members 5, the lower parts 4a of the members 4 and a transverse channel 3 may be integral with the main frame 1 as shown in Fig. 5, the upper parts of the members 4 and integral plates 6 which extend over the members 5 being welded to the main frame members. Alternatively, a single plate 6 may be integral with both members 4. The front axle 10, Fig. 8, is bolted to the ends of the members 4, 5 and the struts 14, 15, the lower member 14 of each strut being welded at 12 to the member 4, while the upper member 15 is secured to the dash plate 11. A foot plate 13 is welded to a transverse member 7 of the main frame and is also connected to the dashplate 11. Additional struts 17, Fig. 12, extend in line with the ends of the strut members 15 but on the under surface of the dash plate 11, and the upper ends of these struts 17 extend into the windscreen side pillar 18, as shown in Fig. 16, and are welded thereto.
