Abstract

504,537. Walls. SCHAFER, K. Sept. 20, 1938, No. 27366. [Class 20 (iv)] A building comprises brickwork walls having vertical recesses e provided @ the faces thereof, concrete columnar members cast in the recesses e and reinforced by members which are anchored in the brickwork, and reinforced-concrete cross-beams f supported by oppositely-disposed walls and united with the reinforced-concrete members cast in the recesses e. The recesses e are provided directly opposite each other in the two faces of each wall, and the vertical reinforcing-bars c which are provided in these recesses are tied to bars b bent to rectangular form and disposed in the brickwork joints so as to project into the recesses e. The reinforcing-bars c of the columnar members and the reinforcing-bars g of the beams f are arranged to enter the concrete at the junction between the columnar members and beams f. The beams f extend through the thickness of the walls so as to become integral with the concrete cast in the recesses e on both sides of each wall. The beams f may be floor or roof beams according to their position in the structure.
