Abstract

495,420. Embossing sheets. BRITISH ALUMINIUM CO., Ltd., and DANIELS, J. F. May 14, 1937, No. 13726. [Class 83 (iv)] Die-rolling.-An aluminium, brass, copper, &c. sheet is given a desired finish or ornamented design by passing it with a sheet of paper of desired pattern and/or surface through a rolling mill as often as required. The paper is removed after rolling leaving a dull finish on an otherwise bright sheet. A pack of alternate layers of paper and metal sheets may be rolled, or one paper sheet may be used between two thin metal sheets. The paper sheet may initially have a design in wax, ink, paint, crayon, &c. and if the wax is to be transferred to the metal sheet, during rolling the metal sheet is first heated. Such transfer design may then be used as a resist for other known processes such as etching, anodic oxidation, dyeing or colouring.
