[Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] In a lazy-tongs device k, k<1>, Fig. 2, for extending and contracting the interspacing of a series of connected parallel members d, a spindle e mounted in bearings f at the end of each member is provided with toothed pinions g at each end which mesh with stationary racks h disposed at right-angles to the parallel members. In a modification the crossed pairs of links k, k<1> of the preceding construction are replaced by links s, Fig. 5, having half links s<1> pivoted to their centres t. The ends of the links s, s<1> are pivoted at u, u<1>, respectively, to the members d, and the free end of each link s bears against a stop v. The members d may be transverse supporting members of extensiblebelt conveyers.
