Abstract
487,499. Making steel wire ropes. RATH, J. Dec. 21, 1936, No. 35077. Convention date, June 26. Addition to 454,988. [Class 109] A twisting-machine for producing steel wire ropes in which a straightening device for each wire is interposed between the spool and the pressure die is characterized in that each of the straightening devices is mounted to receive a reverse rotational movement in the same direction and at the same speed as the reverse rotational movement of the correspond ing spool frame, so that no relative rotational movements are made between the wires and the straightening devices. The spools a are supported in frames b rotatably mounted in rotating carriers c, d. Each spool rotates as a whole about the shaft f but is given a reverse rotation by gears e so that it retains its vertical position, and this retention of position is imparted to the corresponding straightening device g which is connected at one end to the spool frame by a universal joint i and at the other end is rotatably mounted in the spider h.
