Abstract
439,847. Fuel-injection pumps. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON., Wintherthur, Switzerland. June 12, 1935, No. 16975. Convention date, June 20, 1934. [Class 102 (i)] A fuel-injection pump for a reversible internal-combustion engine is provided with control means whereby at loads above a predetermined value only the timing of the commencement of injection is varied in accordance with the load, whereas at loads below this value not only the timing of commencement, but also the timing of the end of injection are adjusted in accordance with the load. The spring loaded plunger 8 is actuated by a link 7 carrying a roller 6 engaging the symmetrical cam 3. The suction valve 13 is allowed to close by the movement of a rod 27 engaging an abutment 26 on a sleeve 221 mounted on an eccentric 25. The sleeve 221 is oscillated by an adjustable link 29 connected to the spindle 24. The closing of the valve determines the beginning of the injection. A byepass valve 20 is opened to end injection by similar gear, the sleeve 31<1> being oscillated by the link 38. The eccentric pins 25, 32 are geared together by quadrants 37, 38 and adjusted by the governor to vary the timing. The clearance 36 allows a certain adjustment before the valve 20 is actuated. The arrangement of the valves and actuating mechanism may be varied. The same law of regulation may be attained by controlling the suction and byepass ports by the plunger or a side valve.
