Abstract

Compositions for the production of films, artificial silk, lacquers, moulded articles, and the like, comprise an organic ester of cellulose containing an acyl group having more than two carbon atoms, and a lower trialkyl phosphate. Cellulose esters specified are the acetate-propionate, acetate-butyrate, acetate-stearate, propionate, butyrate, and stearate; the trialkyl phosphates are tributyl phosphate and others having less than six carbon atoms in the alkyl group. A composition for making films or sheets comprises unhydrolysed cellulose acetate-propionate dissolved in ethylene chloride, to which is added tributyl phosphate in amount from 10--80 parts to 100 parts of cellulose ester. Comparative tests are given of films made with and without the trialkyl phosphate.ALSO:Compositions for the production of films, artificial silk, lacquers, moulded articles, and the like, comprise an organic ester of cellulose containing an acyl group having more than two carbon atoms, and a lower trialkyl phosphate.
