Abstract

423,641. Spectacles. HEMPEL, P., 29, Breitestrasse, Cologne, Germany. April 5, 1934, No. 10350. Convention date, April 5, 1933. [Class 97 (i)] [See also Group XXV] The temples 20 of a pair of spectacles are provided with extensions 23 behind the ears, urged resiliently against the back of the head of the wearer. The temple 20 may be provided with a fork 25 and the extension 23 with a tongue 26, these two parts being hinged together by a pin 27. A spring 30, totally enclosed in the hinge, is provided round the pin with its ends projecting into slots 31 and 33 in members 26 and 25 in order to urge resiliently the extensions 23 inwardly. In a modification members 25 and 26 are replaced by casings 35 and 36 secured to the temple and extension respectively and hingedly connected by a bolt 38 and screw 39. The spring member 41 for the hinge is totally enclosed as in the previous construction. Stops are provided in the hinge to limit the inward motion of the extensions 23.
