Abstract

420,968. Containers for cigarettes &c. BOOTH, R. N., Neasden Court, Neasden Lane, Neasden, London. Sept. 13, 1934, No. 26314. [Class 18] A container for cigarettes, cigars, matches, lead refills for pencil holders &c., is provided with a flap c Figs. 6, 11 and 13, covering an egress aperture so that when the container is shaken so as to cause one cigarette &c. to protrude the flap acts as a pawl to prevent its return. In Fig. 11 the lid is of sliding type and the flap is mounted within the body of the container on a baseplate extending between the two side walls. In Fig. 13 the container is oval and the flap is mounted on the lid and consists of a forked tongue of rubber, celluloid, cardboard, &c. The container is provided with two grooves a<2> to guide the ejected article. A similar rubber tongue may be used in the drawer of a drawer-andshell cigarette carton, an aperture being formed at one corner. The carton or the drawer is provided with a seating cover which has to be removed before a cigarette can be ejected. Such an outlet may also be made in the end of a closed cardboard &c. shell. In Fig. 6 a compartmental container with two rows of cigarettes is shown, the flap c being hinged to a baseplate d. The flap may also form the end part of a sliding lid, being held in closed position by a light coiled spring the pressure of which is overcome when the case is jerked. Alternatively, the flap may be held by its end engaging a groove in the end of the body. The lid may have a hinged portion closing over the flap and outlet aperture.
