Abstract

384,585. Electrolytic treatment of wire. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO.. Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. -(Assignees of Dantsizen, C. ; 1240, Glenwood Boulevard, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) June 20, 1932, No. 17431. Convention date, June 22, 1931. [Class 41.] Iron or steel rod is subjected before wiredrawing to anodic treatment in a bath of lime water to produce a protective and lubricating coating of lime and iron oxide. The coating is dried in hot air or at room temperature. The rod is preferably passed through the electrolytic bath on its way to the drawing dies. A suitable electrolyte consists of a saturated solution of calcium hydroxide, carrying excess of lime in suspension, maintained at 90-100‹ C. A current density of 1 amp. per running inch of rod is suitable. Wire so produced may be used for welding electrodes.
