Abstract

376,585. Land rollers ; removing moisture from turf &c. HIGHFIELD, F. G., Clanver, Green Lane, Timperley, Cheshire. Oct. 23, 1931, No. 29422. Divided on 371,524. [Class 6 (i).] Apparatus for rolling and removing moisture from cricket grounds, tennis courts, floors, &c. comprises a roller having an absorbent jacket, supports for a moisture expressing roller and a water receiving vessel, and reversible and adjustable pushing shafts or handles, a trolly being provided for transporting the apparatus. The absorbent jacket A may be secured on the roller a<1> by wire stitching, and the axle b<1> of the roller a<1> may support an internal ballast tank. The axle is mounted in ball or other bearings in bracket arms d<1> slotted to receive the bearing blocks e<1> of the expressing roller f<1>, the blocks el being acted upon by adjustable springs g. The roller f<1> may be plain or fluted or covered with rubber &c. Longitudinal bars d<3> are attached to the arms d<1> and to struts d<2> projecting from them. They carry a removable water-receiving vessel c<2> having a plug or outlet cl, and are provided with dependent feet d<5>. The shafts or handles h may be turned about the axle b<1> to the other side of the roller a<1>, being secured in either position by a spring- controlled bar engaging in notches j<1>, j<2>. To adjust the position of the roller f<1> and to facilitate the use of a deeper vessel c<2> the handles h may be adjusted so as to make an angle with the arms d<1>, being secured in position by a second spring-controlled bar j<3> engaging notches j<4>, j<5>. In a modification, there are two pairs of arms d<1>, two expressing rollers f<1>, and two tanks c<2>. The transporting trolly consists of wheels or drums q, Fig. 8, mounted on a cranked axle q<1> adapted to be engaged by the notched ends of the struts d<2>. According to the Provisional Specification a pump may be provided for emptying the water-receiving vessel, which vessel may be made from a bent longitudinal duct with two shaped end-pieces fixed by rivets. Specification 371,524 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
