Abstract

368,990. Road vehicle bodies and doors. BISHOP, W. H., 48, Moor Street, Birmingham. March 16, 1931, No. 7976. [Classes 103 (ii) and 108 (i).] In order to vary the dimensions, contour and general appearance of passenger road vehicles the skeleton frame is formed of a number of members adapted to be secured in any desired position on the chassis frame each member consisting of two or more parts which can be set in line with each other or at any desired angle. The frame members may be of wood or metal and the pillars can be attached to body sills or directly to the chassis. As shown in Fig. 1, the side pillars a, c are attached to body sills d and to wheel arches and each comprise two parts hinged about longitudinal axes e and adjusted to any desired extent, the parts being thereafter locked or welded. The rear pillars b are formed of parts hinged about transverse axes g. The pillars may be secured to the chassis at any desired angle either directly or by means of angle-plates or brackets. Fig. 4 shows a vehicle on which the rear side pillar l is hinged to a wheel arch m which is itself in two parts hinged about the same point n. The pillars are preferably of channel section, and Fig. 8 shows a method of securing a panel r thereto. The window frames and doors may have frames each member of which is similarly formed in two parts while a sliding panel for the roof may be formed of four corner units cut to desired size and united. A beading at the waist rail height may be provided.
