Abstract
343,672. Cleaning metals. DENNISON, E., 15, Rice Street, Port Talbot, Glamorgan. Jan. 2, 1930, No. 117. [Class 82 (ii).] Apparatus for cleaning metal bars, plates, sheets, rods, &c., comprises a bath, a conveyer on which the bars &c. are carried through the bath and brushes or scrapers located in the bath to engage both the upper and lower surfaces of the bars. A bath 1 is fitted with a framework 3 which acts as guide for the bars and carries three transverse shafts 6, 8, 14. The shaft 6, which is driven in any suitable manner, carries chain wheels 5 over which passes a chain conveyer 4 with upstanding projections 4a to engage the bars, the other end of the conveyer passing over wheels 7 on the shaft 8 which is mounted at a greater depth in the bath than the shaft 6. The bars are removed from the bath by a second conveyer 12 passing over wheels 11, 13 on the shafts 8, 14 respectively. The bars are brushed on entering and leaving the liquid by pairs of brushes 9, 10 and 15, 16 respectively. The upper brushes are carried by L-shaped arms 19 which are pivoted on a shaft 20 and carry brackets 24 through which pass vertical rods 26 the lower ends of which have heads 26a which are held against brackets 27 on pivoted arms 28 carrying the lower brushes. Coiled compression springs 23 are mounted between the brackets 24 and nuts 25 and the upper and lower brushes are thus resiliently pressed together. The downward movement of the upper brushes is limited by nuts 22 on studs 21 passing through brackets 19a.
