Abstract
The valve includes a T-shaped valve body 11 having a first bore 12 extending therethrough and a second radial bore 15, a stem 28 whose outer end 19 extends through one end of the first bore 12, and a sealing device between the first bore 12 and the stem 18. A cylindrically shaped sealing member 31 has a bore axially aligned with the first bore 12 of the valve body and is disposed within the first bore 12 adjacent to the end 14 thereof opposite the stem. The sealing member 31 has a plurality of oppositely disposed holes in its cylindrical sidewall so that the flow impinges upon itself at the centre of the sealing member 31 to reduce erosion. A cylindrically shaped valve member 32 slideably engages around the outer cylindrical sidewall of the sealing member 31 and is mechanically coupled to the stem 18 so that its inner sidewall may travel along and adjacent to the outer sidewall of the sealing member to control flow. <IMAGE>
