Abstract

An acidic multimetallic catalytic composite comprising specified amounts of platinum group metal, tin, cobalt and halide is as disclosed in U.K. Patent Specification No. 1518339 except that it contains catalytically active cobalt present in the elemental metallic state (or a state reducible thereto under hydrocarbon conversion conditions) in an amount less than 0.5 wt %. As in the case of 1518339, the composite may also contain cobalt bound as part of the porous carrier material and the total of bound and catalytically active cobalt is conveniently 0.5 to 5 wt%. The composite may be used to catalyze hydrocarbon conversion reactions, especially the reforming of gasoline fractions.
