Abstract

948. Mosher, P. W., and Learned, H. G. Jan. 13. Locking nuts.-A steel nut 5 is slotted at two or more corners so as to form lips 8, which are tempered and act as springs. Projecting lugs 9 are provided on the lips and are serrated to engage the work. The inner part of the nut may project so as to engage the work before the spring lips are forced back sufficiently to close the slots 7. Both faces of the nut may be provided with lips and projections and may act in conjunction with an additional soft lock-nut. The nut is shown as applied to a rail joint, but it is also applicable to automobiles, machinery, &c.
