Heating.-The exhaust pipe B from the engine and the heating-pipe C to the carriages are connected by the apparatus shown, which contains a check valve A for the exhaust pipe, and a steam nozzle D from the locomotive boiler. By this arrangement the carriages are first heated by steam from the boiler, after which the heating is maintained by the exhaust steam.
