Abstract

172,697. Melhuish, A. E., (Albatross Ges. f³r Flugzeugunternehmungen). Sept. 6, 1920. Pneumatic springs.-A shock-absorber for aircraft consists of a pneumatic cushion interposed, without means for restraining lateral movement, between the part receiving the shock and the part to be cushioned. A sheath g of leather or the like is secured between a plate o on the frame n and a sleeve k on the axle l. The sheath contains a rubber bag h having an inflating valve i, the bag h being inserted through a hole m. The reaction of the cushion increases with relative movement owing to the sleeve k being pressed into the cushion. The sheath may be made of canvas, metallic fabric, or a set of chains or ropes. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 9997/14, [Class 4, Aeronautics].
