Abstract

171,836. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Sept. 20, 1920. Transformers. - A transformer for supplying large currents of low voltage to electric furnaces, &c., comprises a tubular high-voltage winding 17 wound on a conducting-spool 16 which forms the low-voltage winding. Each winding may be in a number of sections which may be connected in series as shown, or in multiple. The sections of the high-voltage winding are joined by tubular connections 35, so that water or other cooling medium may circulate through the winding. Each of the spools forming the low-voltage winding is split and provided with flanges to form terminals.
