Abstract
1537212 Hot pressing powders or green compacts SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd 8 Feb 1977 [11 Feb 1976 27 Feb 1976 6 May 1976 28 Dec 1976] 05211/77 Heading C7D In hot pressing powder or green compacts of e.g. diamond, BN, Al 2 O 3 , WC-Co, TiB 2 , optionally mixed with Ni, Fe, Cu or Ti N, the powder or compact is heated and vacuum degassed in a container which has an opening covered with a lid and a metal solder which allows the gas to be vented. After degassing, the temperature is raised to melt, the solder and thus seal the lid and container and the assembly is then hot-pressed, preferably isostatically. The container may be a crucible of Fe, Mo, Ni, Ti, WC, W, Co, steel, the lid a porous green Fe powder or sintered Fe, or green WC. The solder which may be placed between the lid and the container or on top of the lid may be a corrugated sheet, wire or mesh of Cu alloy, Sn-Pb, Co-C-W entectic or Ni.
