Abstract

1520144 Pile fabrics FIELDCREST MILLS INC 18 July 1975 [22 July 1974] 30287/75 Heading D1K Pile fabric is made by pressing a block of pile material 11 from a container 12, traversing the container over an adhesive applicator 42 to coat the ends of the pile material 11, continuing traverse to press the coated ends onto a layer of adhesive 40 on a moving release surface 50, continuing traverse to slice the pile material 11 from the block whilst embedding the ends in the adhesive, moving the pile material F and the release surface 50 over a heater 90 to cure the adhesive whilst applying pressure by a conveyor 91, separating the pile material from the release surface at a roller 30, passing the pile material over a cooler 110, trimming the selvedges with cutters 123 and winding the material into a roll 131. The release surface 50 may be a coated belt or a coated paper 60 laid upon the belt and the release surface may travel faster than the traverse of the block of pile material 11 so that the tufts are spaced on the adhesive 40 and a reinforcement 140 may be laid in the adhesive 40. The movements of the container 11, release surface 40 and cutters is intermittent, to allow for the container 12 to be returned to its initial position, the container being raised during its return, and the material is continuously trimmed and wound into the roll 131, and storage loop 121 being formed during making of the material.
