Abstract

1488308 Penicillin derivative BRISTOLMYERS CO 1 Aug 1975 32184/75 Heading C2C The invention comprises the D*-compound of formula and its pharmaceutically acceptable salts. In examples, this compound is prepared by (1) converting p-hydroxyhetacillin to its methoxymethyl ester, or (2) making the methoxymethyl ester of Penicillin V, deacylating this to 6- APA methoxymethyl ester (PCl 5 /PhNMe 2 followed by alcoholysis and hydrolysis), and reacylating the latter to give methoxymethyl D- 6 - (p - hydroxy - α - aminophenylacetamido) penicillanate (II) which is reacted with Me 2 CO to form the imidazoline ring. (II) is also made by an esterification reaction. Therapeutic compositions having antibacterial activity comprise compounds of the above formula and may be administered orally or parenterally.
