Abstract

1397098 Preparation of aromatic amines HOECHST AG 11 Aug 1972 [14 Aug 1971] 37577/72 Heading C2C The invention comprises a process for the preparation of arylamines wherein ammonia or an amine is exchanged with an hydroxy group of an arylhydroxy compound at 100- 300‹ C. in the absence of a catalyst. Specified hydroxy compounds are resorcinol and 1- naphthol which are reacted with gaseous or aqueous ammonia, diethylamine and, in the former case m-aminophenol. The product may be separated from the reaction mixture by distillation, liquid-liquid extraction, selective dissolution in an acid or base or crystallization.
