Abstract

1,273,664. Centrifugal pumps. J L. ENGLESBERG. July 8, 1970 [Aug. 22, 1969], No. 33061/70. Heading F1C. A centrifugal pump comprises a pair of impellers 32, 33 driven by a common shaft 30 so as to draw liquid through respective inlets 23 and 25 and discharge it through a common outlet 26. Impeller 33 is arranged close to wall 22 so as to develop a relatively high-pressure to thereby force its delivery to the outlet 26. A float 36 acts as a skimmer to cause the impeller 33 to draw liquid from the surface 16, whereas impeller 32 draws liquid from below the surface. Inlet 23 has a hose fitting 24. The outlet 26 discharges into a filter unit 40. Removal of packing ring 14 enables the impeller assembly and casing portion 11 to move further into casing portion 10 to thereby close the apertures forming the inlet 25, whereafter the impeller 33 merely serves a sealing function to prevent liquid from leaking out of chamber 20 through opening 31.
