Abstract

1,266,593. Packaging. REED INTERNATIONAL Ltd. 9 Sept., 1970 [9 Sept., 1969], No. 44459/69. Heading B8C. In a package made for example of cardboard and particularly for non-repeatable shaped articles such as artistic objects or, as shown, an oven-ready turkey 24 vacuum packed in a synthetic plastics film, the turkey is securely attached to a platform 23 by a sealed together, and heat shrunk, sheet of polyethylene 27 and flaps 25, 26, hinged to each end of the platform 23, are folded up at right-angles to the platform 23 before the latter is placed in a box 11 to fit snugly within the base thereof so that, when the two lid portions 12, 13 of the base are closed, the two flaps 25, 26 abut the lid portions 12, 13 and restrain the platform 23 against vertical movement. The two lid portions 12, 13 meet and extend upwardly to form a handle 14 which is retained upright by means of tabs 15, 16 on the handle which engage in slots 17, 18 in portions 19, 20 extending upwardly from the upper ends of the box. The platform 23 and flaps 25, 26 are formed of thick corrugated board, or cardboard, so that the platform 23 is securely held within the box 11. For stacking during storage the portions 19, 20 are first folded across the top of the box and then the lid halves 12, 13 with their respective handle portions 14 in alignment therewith, are folded down, further tabs 21, carried by the tabs 15, 16 being inserted in slots 22 to retain the box closed. Two sheets of plastics having two heat seals may be used for heat shrinking around the article. More than one article may be secured to the platform, and a box may contain more than one platform. The platform may be secured by tabs, or separate distance-pieces.
