Abstract

1,236,919. Stamp pad. HENRY C. STEPHENS Ltd. 7 Oct., 1968 [6 July, 1967], No. 31221/67. Heading B6C. A stamp pad which is, or may be, charged with ink, so that a rubber stamp may be inked by being pressed on to the pad, comprises a slab of an ink-permeable synthetic sponge rubber with a protective cover sheet of knitted monofilament yarn bonded to it by an inkpermeable adhesive. Preferably the synthetic rubber is neoprene and the yarn nylon or cellulose acetate, with either a foamed adhesive or a spatter coat of adhesive joining the two. The pad may rest knitted sheet uppermost on a hard base in a container which fits snugly round the sides of the slab, with an ink-impermeable barrier between the slab and the base. Alternatively the lower surface of the pad may itself be impermeable, either because of a skin formed when it was made or because of a coating of, e.g. wax. Polyurethane, polyester and polyether foam adhesives are preferred for bonding the protective cover sheet to the slab.
