A slide projector provides selective projection of images on to an integral rear projection screen 43 or on to a distant screen, and comprises spaced walls 11, 12 apertured at 39 and 40 and defining a slot 13 to receive slide-changing means and also defining a first space 27 containing projection lamp 28, and a second space 42 containing a fixed mirror 48 reflecting the projection beam 35 through 90 degrees to pass through aperture 44 in a projector side wall for distant projection, space 42 also containing a mirror 76 movable to intercept the reflected beam 35a for direction on to screen 43. Frame 72 carrying mirror 76, and a frame 59 carrying objective lenses 69, 70 for distant and near projections respectively, are movable by an actuating member 53 through pin and slot connections 74, 75 and 64, 65. Member 53 is raised to shift mirror 76 and the lenses by the action of camming slot 52 and fixed pin 51 as the member is displaced by rotations of manual control 56 and lever 54. Either lens is focused by horizontal displacement of frame 59 whose pin 60 enters camming groove 61 in a focusing wheel 62. Stacked slides may be received in supply and take-up compartments 17, 18 on either side of slot 13. The slides are transported to and from the projection station at apertures 39 40 by a device comprising a changer 108 manually reciprocable between stationary frame plates 105, 106, the device being detachably received in slot 13. Withdrawal of changer 108 to the outermost position allows a pressure plate in compartment 17 to push the leading slide through aperture 110 for engagement by changer 108 on the return stroke in which the slide is moved into alignment with apertures 39, 40 and framing apertures 115, 139, 123 in plate 105, changer 108, and plate 106 respectively. On the next outward stroke springs 127, 128 on a partition plate 126 deflect the slide into plate 106 for ejection through aperture 121. Rotary slide-carrying disc 97 may be used alternatively with the projector and is mounted for indexing rotation on three rollers such as 101, Fig.3, in response to manual reciprocation of a slide-changing device 15 detachably received in slot 13.
