Abstract
1,203,313. Potentiometers. DUNCAN ELECTRONICS Inc. 10 Sept., 1968 [18 Sept., 1967], No. 43039/68. Heading H1S. A helical coil potentiometer consists of a moulded cylindrical case 16 (Fig. 1) made of thermoplastics and split longitudinally into a plurality of parts which are assembled and secured around a preformed helical resistance coil. The parts of the cylindrical case are held together by means of two metallic terminal rings 40 (Fig. 11) having terminals 45. Two end caps 17 and 18 of the same material as the ease are slidingly fitted on to the assembled case and secured in position by fusing flush a set of axial pins 66 into the countersunk bores 68 (Fig. 11) in the end caps. An electrical contact 98 moving along the helical resistance wire on slider 30 and rotating with shaft 36 is mounted in a box-like aperture on slider 30. The forked end of the contact 98 bears slidingly on the convex edge 91 of another conductive member fixed in the dovetail groove 90 of the rotor 34 and having rounded contacts which in turn press against a slip ring (80, Fig. 7, not shown) having an external terminal portion (82).
