Abstract

1,191,459. Grinding. IMPERIAL METAL INDUSTRIES (KYNOCH) Ltd. 10 Jan., 1968 [17 Jan., 1967], No. 2477/67. Heading B3D. A method of surface finishing metal strip or sheet, such as copper or brass strip or sheet before or after it has passed through the rolls of a rolling machine, comprises moving the surface of the sheet in rubbing contact with a transversally extending stationary pad having an open-textured synthetic resin fibre wadding impregnated with fine abrasive. The pad may be “ inch thick nylon wadding impregnated with aluminium oxide or silicon carbide powder and is releasably secured to a backing member of wool felt, the fibres of the nylon pad engaging loops on a tape adhered to the felt backing member which is 1 inch thick, about 6 inch wide and is supported on a member extending transversely to the direction of movement of the strip or sheet. Pads may be applied to both sides of the strips.
