Abstract

1,183,900. Pistons. CROSS MFG. CO. (1938) Ltd. 15 Nov., 1968, No. 54222/68. Heading F2T. A piston.and-ring assembly comprises an L- section split oil scraper ring having one leg 12 housed in a groove 13 in the piston skirt 11, the other leg 14 being directed away from the piston crown and being urged outwardly against a surrounding cylinder bore 18 by a second piston ring 16 housed in a second groove 17 in the piston skirt. The free end 14a of the leg 14 is tapered to form a scraping edge. The ring 16 is split and of quadrilateral section as shown.
