Abstract

1,168,404. Copolyamides. INVENTA FœR FORSCHUNG UND PATENTVERWERTUNG ZœRICH A.G. 12 March, 1968 [13 March 1967], No. 11987/68. Heading C3R. A copolyamide having a random distribution of the monomer unit is prepared by heating #-caprolactam or #-aminocaproic acid or both with hexamethylene diamine adipate and polylaurolactam in an inert atmosphere at atmospheric pressure to 260-290‹ C., with consequent breakdown of the polylaurolactam to laurolactam monomer units, until a random distribution of the monomer units is achieved, the polymerization being continued for at least 8 hours at 280‹ C. or at least 12 hours at 260‹ C. An organic carboxylic acid chain growth regulator, e.g. sebacic acid, may be present. The copolyamide may be combined with formaldehyde, epoxy resins and phenol resin to form reactive cross-linkable polyamides useful for textile or paper coatings.
