1,162,242. Monoazo dye chromium complexes. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 12 Sept., 1966 [16 Sept., 1965], No. 39586/65.. Addition to 947,647. Heading C4P. The invention comprises the chromiumcontaining azo dyes which, in free acid form, are of formula wherein A is ortho-phenylene or -naphthylene, X is an acryloylamino or #-chloropropionylamino group, Z<SP>1</SP> and Z<SP>11</SP> are-O-or-COO-, D is -O-, -NH, -N(alkyl)- or B is the residue of a coupling component linked in ortho-position to D, the ring R<SP>1</SP> contains a chlorine, nitro, C 1-4 alkylsulphonyl or sulphonic acid substituent, the ring R<SP>3</SP> may be substituted other than by metallizable groups ortho to the N atom and the naphthalene ring may be substituted provided that the molecule contains a single sulphonic acid group in A, B, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> or the naphthalene ring. The dyes may be prepared by reacting together a 1: 1-chromium complex of an appropriate monoazo dye with an equimolar amount of an appropriate metallizable monoazo dye or by treating a dye of the above formula, but wherein X is -NH 2 with acryloyl chloride or #-chloropropionyl chloride. The dyes give green, brown and black shades on wool.
